Blepharoplasty – Upper and Lower Eyelid Correction
The eyes are certainly the most important vector of our feelings. Throughout time, humans have tried to improve their appearance, whether through makeup already present in ancient Egypt or Persia, or thanks to the latest techniques in both surgery and aesthetic medicine. This chapter is dedicated to surgical techniques that allow for eye rejuvenation. They help remove excess skin and erase fat pockets.
TECHNIQUE
Upper blepharoplasty (upper eyelid surgery) involves removing excess skin as well as any possible fat accumulation in the medial part to achieve a rejuvenated and lighter look. The scar is positioned in the upper eyelid fold (thus invisible).
It is performed under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis and lasts 20 minutes per side.
Lower blepharoplasty (lower eyelid surgery) involves removing excess skin and redistributing peri-orbital fat to conceal dark circles and achieve a less tired look. It is performed under sedation on an outpatient basis and lasts about 1.5 hours.
POST-OPERATIVE CARE
These procedures cause very little pain. Taking paracetamol is sufficient to control the pain.
Bruising (blue marks) may appear but are rare. Post-operative swelling (edema) appears within an hour after the procedure and may persist for a week.
You are asked to sleep in a semi-upright position for 48 hours. Drops and ointments are prescribed by Dr. Zirak to prevent dry eye syndrome.
Sutures are removed after a week. Scars remain pink for another one to two weeks, but makeup is allowed as soon as the sutures are removed.
As with any cosmetic surgery, the result looks natural after two to three weeks, but the final aesthetic appearance is achieved only after three to six months.
