Dysphoria usually refers to a mood disturbance, accompanied by anxiety and discomfort.

GENDER DYSPHORIA

People with gender dysphoria experience a marked incongruence between the gender they were assigned at birth and the gender they feel or express, leading to significant distress and psychological suffering.

The experienced gender may include alternative genders beyond binary stereotypes.

Thus, the distress is not limited to a desire to be of the other gender but may include a desire to be of an alternative gender, provided it differs from the assigned gender.

Prevalence varies greatly according to studies:

>  1/13000 to 1/38000 biological males
>  1/30000 to 1/110000 biological females

All studies show that hormone-surgical transformation combined with psychosocial support is highly effective in relieving dysphoria (psychological suffering).

It is important to note that the major changes induced by hormone-surgical transformation (physical, psychological, emotional, familial, social, and professional) require an adapted evaluation phase for each individual.
