Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)
Mini Abdominoplasty – Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery of the Abdominal Wall
Repeated pregnancies or significant weight fluctuations can lead to a loss of skin tone and sagging, often accompanied by muscle laxity or separation (diastasis) of the abdominal wall. In such cases, skin and/or muscle tightening may be necessary. Depending on the excess skin, a mini abdominoplasty or a full abdominoplasty will be recommended. These procedures can be combined with liposuction if needed.
MINI ABDOMINOPLASTY
INDICATION
When the excess skin is moderate and limited to the area below the navel.
TECHNIQUE
The procedure is performed under sedation and can be done on an outpatient basis. Liposuction may be included.
The excess skin is removed after a limited detachment of the area below the navel. The scar, hidden in the underwear line, is barely longer than that of a cesarean section.
POST-OPERATIVE CARE
Pain is moderate (the skin is temporarily numb). A compression garment must be worn day and night for six weeks.
Resumption of sports activities is allowed after six weeks.
ABDOMINOPLASTY
INDICATION
When the excess skin affects the entire abdominal wall or when muscle laxity is significant.
TECHNIQUE
This technique, performed under general anesthesia and requiring hospitalization, allows for the removal of all the skin between the navel and the pubis. The upper abdominal skin (often of better quality) is then redraped downward. The navel is preserved and repositioned through an incision made in the newly lowered skin. Liposuction and diastasis repair can be included to enhance the waistline.
POST-OPERATIVE CARE
A 72-hour hospital stay is standard. Wearing a compression garment is recommended for six weeks. Resumption of all sports activities is possible six weeks after the procedure.
