Belgian Society of Lymphology

On this fourth of October 2025, we had the pleasure of coming together at the symposium of the Belgian Society of Lymphology. It was a memorable day with high-level speakers and an enthusiastic audience.

Once again, the importance of collaboration between plastic surgeons and physiotherapists was highlighted, both for the management of lipedema and lymphedema and for various aesthetic facial surgeries. This collaboration is indeed essential to achieve the best results and the shortest and smoothest possible postoperative recovery for our patients.

The cornerstone of the management of lipedema or lymphedema remains, of course, physiotherapeutic treatment. However, surgical techniques, notably lymphatic-preserving liposuction, lymphatic-venous anastomoses, and lymph node transfers, make it possible to achieve spectacular results and even speak of a "near cure".

The performance of these surgeries is governed by a very strict specialized physiotherapy protocol before the procedure and for one year afterward.

With regard to procedures such as cervicofacial lifting, blepharoplasty, or rhinoplasty, the results achieved are significantly superior when patients have benefited from manual lymphatic drainage sessions. The extent and duration of bruising or postoperative edema are reduced to almost nothing thanks to this specialized physiotherapy technique, especially in patients with thick or dark skin.

Moreover, the addition of radiofrequency techniques, LED light therapy, and skin boosters to this physiotherapeutic preparation elevates aesthetic results to the level of Art, with a capital A.

This is why I have surrounded myself with men and women who excel in the execution of each of these techniques, in order to achieve the best results currently possible.
